The Girls Who Code (GWC) club touched down in NYC early Friday morning. After an afternoon of exploring, GWC met with Chris Fabian and his innovation team at UNICEF. Here the girls showed off their applications and compared notes with this elite team of coders whose most well know effort has been developing apps that help fight the spread of Ebola in Africa.
The GWC arrived at the Regional Technovation Competition as the furthest traveled team. Although tired and damp (from the rain), one of our teams took first place and won! The teams are as listed: China Reddix & Aeryn Anderson(honorable mention), McKensi Ford & Amira Johnson (first place), and Cheyenne Evans & Isabelle Walker & Caryelle Deffenbaugh (honorable mention). Our winning team, who go by ESTEEM, is not done working. Though they have claimed 1st place at the regional competition, their app will now be judged by a nation wide panel. If they clear this next round, ESTEEM will be invited to the world wide Technovation competition held in San Diego. All in all, these seven girls represented SciTech for what it truly is: an opportunity to Dream, Discover, and Design.
