Hello SciTech Families,
On behalf of the SciTech faculty and staff, I hope that this letter finds you and your families doing well. All of their teachers and the staff miss our students. I know our teachers are looking forward to reconnecting with students through our new model of at-home learning soon.
As you know, our school district will transition to an online learning option for the delivery of instruction effective Tuesday, April 14, 2020. The SciTech administration and faculty are committed to ensuring that our students continue to receive the best possible instruction as we implement this new learning model. Your feedback and support during this process will help us to know what is working best and make any adjustments as quickly as possible in order to support students with this new model of at home instruction.
We recognize that students and families are experiencing new and potentially challenging circumstances during this time. In addition to the PPS Student Home Technology Survey that has been made available to families, you should have received a call from your child’s advisor for additional information concerning technology needs. Student advisors have been able to contact 80% of our SciTech families.
As we look ahead to the start at-home learning, it is our expectation that our students engage daily in all learning activities, as assigned and facilitated by their teachers. Students can expect that their teachers will use Schoology and other online platforms for asynchronous instruction in order to enable students to work independently at any time. Teachers will be available during live “office hours” every day to provide assistance and additional instruction. Our schedule of support for at-home learning has been posted on our school website https://pittsburghscitech.com/remote-learning-information/. Individual teachers will be sharing additional information with you over the next several days. Our teachers will communicate with families by email, Remind messages or by phone. Please support the efforts of our team by replying to their messages so they know you and your child are receiving them. I am sure our teachers will appreciate hearing from you.
In closing, I want to thank you for your patience and flexibility, as we transition to at-home teaching and learning. Our teachers have been working extremely hard to prepare to engage their students in meaningful learning experiences. We recognize that this will not be perfect, and we encourage you to reach out to us at any time with questions or concerns.
