SciTech GSA Wins Grant!

SciTech’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance worked collaboratively together in submitting a grant application to THRIVE of Southwest PA. We were informed in early August that we would be receiving the $1,300 request for the 2018-2019 school year. The GSA will provide a safe space kit to every teacher in the building, research and purchase supplemental materials for health classes to access, design t-shirts to sell to staff/students, organize field trips, and purchase gear for the National Day of Silence in April.

Week of Inspiration Math

Geometry students kicked off the year by engaging in a “Week of Inspiration Math,” with tasks designed by Stanford Professor Jo Boaler.  On Friday, students explored patterns in cubes of different sizes, and they worked within their groups to justify their answers and to think about how the patterns would apply to larger cubes.
